First Impressions: 1 Month in Lisboa

Our interns from Twin Internships have been here for one month now, they have explored the city and loved all the cultural aspects of Lisboa. Here are some of the things our interns have loved and gotten up to!

Uma: “I love the celebration of different cultures, through art, music and dance, my favourite part has been listening to live samba music and jazz music!“

Lisbon celebrates life through music, dance, drama, and theater. You will often find large or intimate settings with live music, from Miradouros, small bars, and larger concerts. In our reel our interns watched a production at the Teatro Politeama in the city center.

Rachel: “I like the Portuguese azulejos tiles and the easy and accessible metro“

Faith: “I like the architecture, cobbled streets and the pasties de nata“

Helena: “I have found that Portuguese culture is shown and found in the most hidden places, showing the importance of exploring every part of the city to really understand and feel the culture”

Helena loves the decorations, colourful tinsel, and architecture in the hidden streets and alleyways showcased in Martim Moniz in celebration of Portuguese festivals such as Festas dos Santos Populares (Popular Saints’ Festival); with All Saints Day being yesterday, it’s no surprise to see the streets decorated in celebration of this.

Wandi: “I love the miradouros, sunsets & sunrises and obviously how sunny it is most days!”

Miradouros are beautifully placed around the city, giving a panoramic view of the city from so many different perspectives. Being able to take a moment out of the day to sit and watch the city wake up or go to sleep has been a favourite for our interns. Our reel showcases; Miradouro do Monte Agudo, Miradoura de Santa Luiza, and Miradouro da Senhora do Monte.

Ottilie: “ I like the chance to experience production work abroad, exploring the vintage shops and the croissants and coffee!!”

Street marks can be found all over the city, selling everything from clothes to books to paintings and ornaments. The market in our reel was found in the center near Praça da Comércio. Other markets we’ve visited during our stay have included Mercado de Santa Clara, which is open every Saturday and Tuesday. One of our favourite spots to walk through at nighttime as featured in our reel is the gorgeous main road leading upwards from Avenida station this is one of the streets with Lisbon’s most high-end stores and luxury hotels.
